Thank you for considering adopting from Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA! As an open-door shelter we offer many different types of animal companions for adoption and our adoption counselors will be pleased to assist in finding the right pet for you!

All of our animals receive medical and behavior evaluations. Cats, dogs and rabbits are vaccinated and spayed or neutered. All of our cats and dogs are also microchipped. If needed, the animals in our care receive flea, tick and de-worming treatments and FIV testing.

Our adoption package also includes 14 days of post-adoption limited medical care, a temporary leash or carrier and a discount on behavior classes.

Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA places thousands of animals into new homes every single year.

Adoption Procedure

The Lantos Center for Compassion is open for visits! We are located at 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA. During your visit, an Adoption Counselor will assist you with a same day, walk-in adoption or if you prefer, we can make an adoption appointment. Potential adopters are asked to complete our Adoption Profile, which serves as a conversation starter when you meet with a pet. The counselor will use this profile to discuss your past experiences with pets, your lifestyle, activities you might want to do with your new pet and the pet’s housing situation. And, of course, we will answer your questions. Of course, we give you “alone” time with the pet you are considering. Adoptions are done on the same day of the meet and greet, so please come prepared to adopt if you fall in love.

Adoption Appointments: If you prefer to set up an appointment to meet with dogs, please submit your fully completed Adoption Profile to the adoptions department at [email protected].  A staff member will call you to set up an appointment. You must be 18 or older to submit a profile.

To make the best match possible, we suggest that you bring the entire household to meet the new companion and bring your current dog(s) if you are looking to meet a new dog.

Please Note: Same day walk-in adoptions will be done on a first come, first served basis. Adoptions take a minimum of 1 hour. If you planning to come into the shelter for an adoption, please come at least one hour before closing, an hour and half on the weekends. All adopters must be at least 18 years old, and PHS/SPCA reserves the right to deny adoptions. People 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to interact with adoptable animals. Our priorities are the health, safety and future well-being of the animals in our care and the health, safety and expectations of people hoping to find an animal companion. Adopters must visit in person to adopt, and we do not ship our animals.
