The Foster Care Program is made up of volunteers who offer temporary care for PHS/SPCA companion animals when they no longer require immediate veterinary supervision or behavioral evaluation, but are not quite ready for adoption. Foster parents temporarily house shelter animals to help them become more adoptable; they help animals under the weather or recovering from injuries, work on specific challenging behaviors in their home setting, or simply provide a stress free area for animals having a difficult time coping at the shelter. Each of our Foster Care Providers participates in an interview and training process that prepares them for this work. All Foster Care Providers must be 18 years old or older.
