How Your Donation Helps
PHS/SPCA provides warm beds, nutritious food, veterinary care and loving attention for the thousands of lost, stray, unwanted and/or injured domestic and wild animals that come through our doors each year. We depend on the support of community members and concerned animal lovers to help us provide for these animals in need. There are many ways you can help PHS/SPCA and our shelter animals. Browse on the left for information on donating, honor/memorial gifts, vehicle donations, monthly giving, bequests, and other ways you can help. On behalf of our friends with fur, feathers, scales and tails, THANK YOU!
Funding Areas
There are several key areas in which your funds can help PHS/SPCA. Feel free to designate your gift to any of the six funding areas listed below. If no designation is indicated, we will distribute donations to whichever programs most urgently need them.
Hope Program
Our Hope Program helps the neediest animals and gives them a second chance at life. Many animals need extra medical care, behavior training, or TLC before they can be adopted into a new forever home. The Hope Program saves more than 150 animals every month.
Spay/Neuter Services
Our low-cost and free spay/neuter programs significantly reduce pet overpopulation. Since the opening of our Spay/Neuter Clinic in 1970, we’ve experienced an 86% reduction in the number of cats and dogs entering our shelter.
Cruelty Investigations
Our highly-trained Humane Investigators respond to every report of animal cruelty in San Mateo County. Depending on the nature of the cases, they may offer animal care advice, issue a Veterinary Treatment Notice, or, in extreme situations, remove animals from harm’s way and then work with the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute abusers.
Humane Education
We offer varied and unique education programs for all ages, including classroom presentations, tours, camps, and a Vet Shadow Program. We also offer PEP Talks (Pet Education Program), adult and family presentations that range from informative lectures to hands-on classes to drop-in learning events.
Wildlife Rehabilitation
Our Wildlife Care Program rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife from San Mateo, San Francisco and Northern Santa Clara counties. Last year we treated and released more than 1,300 animals back into their natural habitats once they were able to function properly in the wild.
