Wildlife Intake Volunteer
LOCATION: South Bay Intake
Located at 3027 Penitencia Creek Road San Jose CA 95132
SUPERVISOR: Wildlife Intake Technician
GOAL OF POSITION: Assist with animal intake at South Bay Intake
TIME COMMITMENT: At least one three-hour shift per week for a minimum of one year. Shifts are 12 pm to 3 pm each day and the position is year-round.
DUTIES: Wildlife Intake Volunteers receive wildlife patients from the public, direct the public to fill out the intake form, and bring the animals into the exam room for Wildlife staff. Members of the public with significant questions should be directed to call and speak with the Wildlife Center Administrators.
TRAINING: Completion of New Volunteer Orientation and Intro to Wildlife Class. Additional on-the-job team training is provided by the Wildlife staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be willing to work the public and offer courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable information regarding PHS/SPCA. Good physical stamina to be able to move heavier animals and containers into the exam rooms.
EMOTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: Intake volunteers will see many sick and injured animals, often up close, with severe injuries that require humane euthanasia as the best possible treatment. Members of the public are often emotional and can be difficult to deal with.
Please note this volunteer position is located at our South Bay Intake location in San Jose, not at the new Wildlife Care Center in Saratoga.
