Spay & Neuter Clinic Volunteer (Surgery Area)

GOAL OF POSITION:Provide assistance to the veterinarians, technicians and animal patients in the clinic.

SUPERVISOR:Spay & Neuter Clinic Manager

LOCATION:Coyote Point located at 12 Airport Blvd., San Mateo, CA 94401

TIME COMMITMENT:At least three hours a week for a minimum of one year.
Monday – Friday: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

DUTIES:As a Spay & Neuter Clinic Volunteer, you will be folding and wrapping surgical gowns and drapes; cleaning and sterilizing surgical area, instruments and equipment; cleaning animals kennels/cages; helping discharge animals back to their guardians; cleaning and folding laundry; providing people with post-surgical are information. More advanced volunteers may be trained for recovering animals after anesthesia and assisting with hands-on tasks when asked by staff.

TRAINING:Completion of Volunteer Orientation, a dog TLC class, a cat TLC class. Additional training will be provided by the clinic staff. Specific training in the surgery area will be provided by the Veterinary Technicians and/or Veterinary Assistants on duty.

QUALIFICATIONS:Must feel comfortable in a hospital setting. The surgery process should be something that greatly interests you and does not make you squeamish. Ideal candidates should have good physical agility and strength and must be able to follow exact instructions. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be committed to showing up for shifts as we rely heavily on our volunteer help in the clinic!

DRESS CODE:Volunteers must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes with good traction along with a PHS/SPCA volunteer shirt and keycard/nametag.
