Small Animal Companion Volunteer
SUPERVISOR: Small Animal Companion Lead Volunteer or Volunteer Services Manager
TIME COMMITMENT: At least two hours a week for a minimum of one year. Monday- Sunday 10:00am- 7:00 pm.
DUTIES: Small Animal Companion Volunteers provide companionship, exercise, and socialization to the rats, rabbits and guinea pigs up for adoption.
TRAINING: Completion of Volunteer Orientation. Successful completion of rabbit handling session as well as on-the-job training.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have the desire to work with rats, rabbits and guinea pigs and be interested in learning about their special needs. Small Animal Companion Volunteers must also be able to work independently. Must be at least 18 years of age.
EMOTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: The animals you work with may be chosen for euthanasia; therefore you must be able to focus on what you can do to make their time at the shelter as comfortable and loving as possible.
