Molly – The Adventure Potato

Molly
Not all pets come to PHS/SPCA ready to immediately become part of a new family. Some dogs, like Molly, need extra behavior training before they can become available for adoption. Molly was found as a stray and lacked manners: she was mouthy, jumpy, and stubborn. We knew Molly was a great dog because she was friendly, loved to play, and was eager to learn. She just needed some time, structure, and training to overcome her challenges.

Our behavior staff created a training plan to help Molly become her best self. Molly’s biggest hurdles were being calm while her harness, collar, and leash were put on and learning “drop it” for toys she is didn’t want to give up.

Molly has become amazing with her dorm manners now and will await her handler to place the gear on her without mouthing or jumping. Her attention span to handlers on walks has also improved tremendously!

Molly graduated from our Shelter K9 Nose Work class and enjoyed the challenge along the way. In this class, dogs receive mental stimulation and exercise by learning how to search in boxes and around various objects for tasty treats.

If adopted by someone who can put in the time and effort to train her, I have no doubt Molly would be the best! She’d be the best hiker and walker for someone seeking a dog that can go for a good two-to-three-hour hike daily. She loves to play with ball toys and is a big water lover. I could see her being a beach dog in the future.

After 317 days of receiving care, training, and love from PHS/SPCA staff and volunteers, Molly finally met her new mom, and it was a perfect match!

Since Molly was adopted, she has continued her training and graduated from the PHS/SPCA Companion Dog Level 1 class and will be taking the Companion Dog Level 2 class soon!

Molly’s 1st Valentine’s Day with her mom

Molly’s mom told us, “Most of the joy of the past few months has been experiencing ‘firsts’ with Molly – her first snow, first beach day, first hike, first time camping, and first puppucino are some of the highlights. Best part? Everywhere she goes she makes new friends, and she’s the biggest cuddle monster.” Molly is affectionately called a “potato” or “the adventure potato,” inspiring the name for her Instagram @AdventurePotatoMolly.

We love to see pets thriving in their loving homes, especially after spending so much time in our care. Molly wouldn’t have gotten the second chance she needed without our Hope Program, which allowed her to get the training, TLC, and time she needed to flourish and find her pawfect match. Molly, the adventure potato, is truly living her best life!
