Peninsula Humane Society’s Pet Assisted Therapy Program welcomes Lisa Renae Nelson, LMFT of Tanglewood Center for a thought-provoking discussion on the connection between horses and humans and how interaction with horses through Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy can promote human physical and mental health. Register for this online event to learn more about the human-equine bond and to hear about her experiences doing therapeutic work with horses and humans.

Cathy Goldschmidt has been a rabbit volunteer at PHS/SPCA for more than 20 years. She joins us to present about the exciting world of rabbit ownership, provide information about proper rabbit care, and troubleshoot behavior issues. There will be time at the end of her presentation to ask questions that you may have about your own rabbit. This is a wonderful opportunity for rabbit owners to expand upon their knowledge and potential adopters to prepare for a new rabbit.

Birdwatching for Beginners @ Coyote Point Recreation Area

Join us on Saturday, April 17th from 9:00-11:00 am at the Coyote Point Recreation Area.

Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA has partnered with Birder’s Garden of San Carlos to offer a fun and educational morning in the sun.

Join us as we explore the rich birdlife of San Francisco Bay with local birding expert, Dorian Anderson. This educational event will feature discussions of identification, natural history, and conservation. Please bring your own binoculars, wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines. This event requires prolonged walking and standing, wear comfortable shoes.

Parking: Please meet at Eucalyptus Picnic Area in Coyote Point Park. *There is a $6 entrance fee to the park.

This is a free event, but donations are accepted.

Virtual Paint Night

You’re invited to the Owl-At-The Moon Virtual Paint Night hosted by Pinot’s Palette!

Animal-loving painters of all ages and skill levels, join us online at 7pm on May 15th from 7-9 pm for a live, virtual, interactive paint night hosted by Pinot’s Palette of San Bruno! Tickets range from $18 (if you have your own supplies) to $45 (if you plan to pick up your paint kit), and 20% of all sales goes directly to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.

Paint kit includes 16×20 canvas, paper plate palettes, brushes, paper towels and matching paints. Easel is optional (additional $15). Paint kit pickups will start May 1 until the event to avoid paint drying out.

When your companion animal dies, it’s natural to feel grief and sadness, even depression. Our free support group is designed to offer anyone grieving the death, loss or terminal illness of a beloved companion animal. Led by a professional counselor, our group meets the second Thursday of each month, from 7-8:30 pm. The group usually ranges in size from 6 to 12 participants. Some people come once or twice, others four or five times. Participants need not be PHS/SPCA adopters and are not required to sign up for the class.

Are you thinking about adopting a rabbit or maybe you’ve been a rabbit owner for several years, and you need some advice on how to keep your rabbit safe from rabbit hemorrhagic disease. Perhaps you need some help bunny proofing your home, or you desperately need help bonding your new rabbit with your other rabbit. Hop on over to our upcoming virtual PEP Talk to learn all about how to keep your buns the happiest and healthiest they can be. Our Humane Educator will discuss everything from how to properly handle a rabbit to knowing when you need to visit the vet and of course there will be time for Q&A.
