Dog Day Mornings @ Coyote Point Shelter

Do you have a dog who’s a social butterfly? Or maybe a dog who’s a little shy or nervous? Do you like dog parks but sometimes feel uncomfortable being there? Then have we got a program for you and your canine companion!

At Dog Day Mornings dogs romp and play off-leash in a supervised atmosphere every Saturday morning, rain or shine.  All dogs must be current on their vaccinations, have attended a basic obedience class and all dogs 6 months and older must be altered.

Puppy Preschool @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 11 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Puppy preschool is for puppies 2-4 months old and provides a foundation for a lifetime of good habits. This class introduces topics like house training, crate training and puppy handling, and will cover how to correct behaviors like biting, chewing and jumping, plus supervised socialization (off-leash playtime to teach puppies how to play with other dogs.)

Puppies must have had at least 1 DHPP vaccine to attend.

Frequency and Duration:
Saturdays, starting May 11 at 12:00 pm
This is a 1 hour per week class held for 6 weeks*.
Class will be skipped 5/27 for Memorial Day weekend.

Companion Dog Level 1 @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 11 @ 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm

Companion Dog Level 1 is for dogs 6 months and older as well as graduates of Puppy Preschool and/or Kindergarten. Whether you’ve just adopted and want to get off on the right paw or need a refresher, this class is for you. You will learn various hand signals and commands, such as sit, down, come, heel, stay, and leave it, and teach your dog to wait at doorways and walk politely on leash. Proof of current DHPP and Rabies vaccinations is required.

Frequency and Duration:
Saturdays, starting May 11 at 1:15 pm
This is a 1 hour per week class held for 6 weeks*.
Class will be skipped 5/25 and 5/26 for Memorial Day Weekend.

Nosework for Beginners @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 13 @ 6:15 pm – 7:15 pm

Is your dog a busy body who is constantly sniffing out trouble? Learn how to channel his natural nasal abilities at our Introduction to K9 Nosework, taught by a Certified Nose Work Instructor. K9 Nosework is based on scent detection work performed by law enforcement K9s and is a great way to build confidence and focus as well as enhance communication between dog and handler. No prerequisite is required for this class suitable for any dog six months and older. In a controlled environment, learn to engage your dogs natural scenting abilities and give your dog a great mental and physical workout!

Frequency and Duration:
Mondays, Starting May 13 at 6:15 pm
This is a 1.5 hour (90 minutes) per week class held for 6 weeks.
*Class will be skipped on 5/27 for Memorial Day.

This class is for dogs 6 months and older who weigh under 25lbs. Whether you’ve just adopted and want to get off on the right paw, or need a refresher, this class is for you. Volunteer Orientation @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 18 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

New volunteers, please signup online to attend this orientation. Existing volunteers please contact Volunteer Services by clicking here.

Space is limited, so please choose only one date that is convenient for you. If you would like to attend an orientation date that is already full, you can come to that orientation and try for a Drop-In seat. If we have space available due to no-shows or cancellations, you are welcome to stay. If there’s no room, you will have to leave and try for another date.

Shelter Tales @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 18 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Shelter Tales offers children ages 8-12 the opportunity to earn community service hours by reading to shelter dogs and cats at our Lantos Center for Compassion. This enriching opportunity for both youth and adoptable animals is aimed at boosting humane education, improving reading skills, and soothing pets in the presence of children. The program is held on the first and third Saturday of every month from 10-11am. There is a $10 dollar fee per session and reading books are included.
