Vaccination and Microchip Clinic @ Coyote Point Shelter
May 1 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

We hold Vaccination Clinics on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in our auditorium. These low-cost clinics provide vaccinations for rabies, canine distemper, FVRCP and DHPP, as well as microchips — a permanent form of companion animal identification. For more information, please call 650-340-7022 ext. 665. The clinic is held at the 12 Airport Blvd., San Mateo location.

Please note: We are currently undergoing construction at our Coyote Point shelter and may need to cancel the vaccination and microchip clinic with short notice.  Please call 650-340-7022 ext. 665 to ensure the clinic is still occurring on this date.

Pick of the Litter First Friday Sale @ Pick of the Litter Thrift Store

On the first Friday of each month, every item in the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA’s resale store Pick of the Litter is 50% off or more! Pick of the Litter, just off Broadway and close to Highway 101 and CalTrain, features various second-hand treasures including clothing, household items, furniture, art, jewelry, electronics, books, vintage and costume clothing, and a children’s department. All proceeds directly benefit the shelter animals at PHS/SPCA.

Birdwatching for Beginners @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA has partnered with Birder’s Garden of San Carlos to offer a fun and educational morning in the sun.  Join us for the wonderful opportunity to learn from experienced birders about local bird species, their habitats and how you can live in harmony with them.  This event is available to all ages.  Children 12 years and younger are asked to attend with a parent.

Dog Day Mornings @ Coyote Point Shelter

Do you have a dog who’s a social butterfly? Or maybe a dog who’s a little shy or nervous? Do you like dog parks but sometimes feel uncomfortable being there? Then have we got a program for you and your canine companion!

At Dog Day Mornings dogs romp and play off-leash in a supervised atmosphere every Saturday morning, rain or shine.  All dogs must be current on their vaccinations, have attended a basic obedience class and all dogs 6 months and older must be altered.

Volunteer Orientation @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

New volunteers, please signup online to attend this orientation. Existing volunteers please contact Volunteer Services by clicking here.

Space is limited, so please choose only one date that is convenient for you. If you would like to attend an orientation date that is already full, you can come to that orientation and try for a Drop-In seat. If we have space available due to no-shows or cancellations, you are welcome to stay. If there’s no room, you will have to leave and try for another date.

Shelter Tales @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

Shelter Tales offers children ages 8-12 the opportunity to earn community service hours by reading to shelter dogs and cats at our Lantos Center for Compassion. This enriching opportunity for both youth and adoptable animals is aimed at boosting humane education, improving reading skills, and soothing pets in the presence of children. The program is held on the first and third Saturday of every month from 10-11am. There is a $10 dollar fee per session and reading books are included.

Mr. Moo’s Storytime @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

Visit our adoption center with your little one for Mr. Moo’s Storytime on the first Monday of each month at 11:00 am. Children will learn about different animal species through puppet interactions, music, and stories read aloud. This is a free program hosted on the second floor at our Lantos Center for Compassion, 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame. Pet Loss Support Group @ Lantos Center for Compassion
May 9 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

When your companion animal dies, it’s natural to feel grief and sadness, even depression. Our free support group is designed to offer anyone grieving the death, loss or terminal illness of a beloved companion animal. Led by a professional counselor, our group meets the second Thursday of each month, from 7-8:30 pm. The group usually ranges in size from 6 to 12 participants. Some people come once or twice, others four or five times. Participants need not be PHS/SPCA adopters and are not required to sign up for the class.

Companion Dog Level 1 for Shy Dogs @ Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
May 9 @ 7:45 pm – 8:45 pm

This class is for shy dogs 6 months and older. This class is specifically geared to help owners of more shy, cautious canines.  Whether you’ve just adopted and want to get off on the right paw, or need a refresher, this class is for you. You will learn hand signals and commands such as sit, down, come, heel, stay, and leave it, and teach your dog to wait at doorways and walk politely on leash. Proof of current DHPP and Rabies vaccines is required. 

Frequency and Duration:
Thursdays, starting May 9 at 7:45 pm
This is a 1 hour per week class held for 6 weeks.
