Front Office Services Report Animal Abuse or Neglect San Francisco Bay Humane Friends |
Front Office Services Please note that we have two locations: our new center in Burlingame (1450 Rollins Rd.) and our older facility in San Mateo at Coyote Point (12 Airport Blvd). Both are open seven days/wk, 11 am to 7pm on weekdays and 11 am to 6 pm on weekends. While some services, like microchipping and license renewal/purchasing, are available at both locations as a convenience, other services are specific to one location or the others. Please see below. AdoptionAll adoptable animals are available only at our new center in Burlingame (1450 Rollins Rd.). Our counselors meet with all potential adopters to ensure good, lasting matches. The adoption fee for a puppy is $135, a dog is $120 (or $75 for dogs age 7+); kittens (under 6 months) are $95, cats are $80 or $50 if they are age 7+. San Mateo County licenses are separate and mandatory for all dogs and for cats living in San Mateo, Belmont, East Palo Alto and the unincorporated areas of our County. Adoption fees include initial vaccinations, a vet check, a spay/neuter surgery and a microchip ID. This is an incredible deal when compared with buying a dog or cat from a pet store or picking out a "free" dog or cat from someone's animal companion who just had a litter. All of the services we provide as part of the adoption can cost an owner well over $350 elsewhere. Our adoption hotline (650/340-7022 x823) changes daily and contains a listing of all available animals. See Available Dogs, Available Cats, Available Small Animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.), and Available Other Animals (reptiles, etc.) Read our Adoption Philosophy & Procedures, or come visit us. Lost & FoundIf you have lost your pet or if you have found a stray to bring to us, please visit our San Mateo facility (12 Airport Blvd). This is our facility for all incoming animals. Each year, we reunite thousands of stray pets with their human companions. If you've lost an animal, please visit us immediately. If you cannot visit right away, please call 650/340-7022 for help. Keep in mind that we can't make a positive identification over the phone. It is our policy to hold stray animals who arrive with identification for 4 days until we evaluate for adoption. Animals with no identification are held for the state mandated four-day period (excluding the day they arrive) before being evaluated for adoption. During your visit, be sure to pick up our helpful brochure titled "When You've Lost Your Companion Animal" and our free Lost Animal flyer templates. To increase the chance that your animal will be returned, you can fill out the flyer and post it in areas of your neighborhood allowed under city ordinances. MicrochippingAs a convenience for local residents, this service is available – no appointment needed – at both of our facilities. Having your pet microchipped is a great, inexpensive way to ensure that he or she has permanent identification. Microchipping is included with the cost of every adoption, but is also available to the general public on a drop-in basis. A chip the size of a grain of rice containing a serial number is injected just under the skin between the animal's shoulder blades. The process in simple, and painless - much like a needle prick that humans feel. We scan all animals for a microchip. If an animal has been chipped, we will have information about its human caregiver. The cost is $30, or for those living in the unincorporated areas of the county, Belmont, San Mateo and East Palo Alto, just $12. LicensingAs a convenience for local residents, County licenses can be purchased, no appointment necessary, at either PHS/SPCA location: 12 Airport Blvd., San Mateo or our Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Rd., Burlingame. Owners can also go online to www.petdata.com, or by call 1-866-925-5906. To obtain a license, please provide proof of ownership and proof of vaccinations. Current licensing fees can be found on the County of San Mateo website download pdf. Incoming AnimalsAll incoming animals are received at our San Mateo facility (12 Airport Blvd.). In recent years, we've been averaging 11,000 to 12,000 incoming live animals. A third of these are injured or orphaned wildlife. Domestic animals, which make up the great majority, are either surrendered to us or picked up as strays by our officers. For various reasons, human caregivers sometimes have to give up their animals. If a San Mateo County resident has exhausted every option for keeping an animal or finding a suitable home on their own, we encourage them to bring their animal to PHS/SPCA. We will make every effort to redirect out-of-county pet owners to the appropriate facility in their community. We evaluate each animal and take into consideration the animal's age, temperament, behavior and health - as well as spacing concerns at the shelter - in order to determine which animals will be made available for adoption. Since January 2003, we've adopted 100% of the healthy dogs and cats in our care. In addition, each month we make well, then place an average of 200 treatable animals. This life-saving work is made possible by donations to our Hope Fund. | ||||||||
