All adoptable animals (except farm animals) are now housed only at our Tom & Annette Lantos Center for Compassion, located at 1450 Rollins Rd. in Burlingame.

These are only some of the wonderful dogs we have for adoption. We do our best to update this page regularly, but we can’t guarantee every animal shown here is still available. It’s also typical for us to have dogs who haven’t had their photos taken yet, so you are welcome to visit our adoption center and have a look around the 1st floor! We are happy to help you find the perfect pet.

Check out live video of our one-of-a-kind indoor dog park :
When you bring your resident dog to meet one of our shelter dogs, we introduce them in our one-of-a-kind indoor dog park. The park, with a public viewing window, is also used by volunteers and staff throughout the day as a training and exercise area for dogs awaiting adoption. Please note that you may see PHS/SPCA employees or volunteers in our room before or after regular business hours. And, we may temporarily disable our camera while cleaning or maintaining the room and at times when adopters are a bit shy.

If you don't see any animals, be sure to enable Javascript in your browser. Or please visit Petfinder.com to see our available animals . If you're having trouble seeing videos of the animals, try loading the page in a different browser or visit Peninsula Humane Society's YouTube channel directly at YouTube.com.

For a small percentage of adoptable dogs, PHS/SPCA requires an $90 training fee. This fee, collected at the time of adoption, enrolls your adopted dog in our training class. Our staff and volunteers make visitors aware of the training fee early in the adoption process. We require training when it will greatly add to a dog’s success in his or her new home. In other cases, we may conduct a property inspection or have other requirements. Our goal is not to make the process cumbersome, but to do what we know will ensure a lasting adoption. Since we’ve spent time with each dog prior to adoption and have knowledge of different breeds, plus a success rate for lasting adoptions well above the national average, we feel good about our matchmaking process.

Some of our mixed breed dogs have been DNA tested, and those results are included, at no extra cost, with their adoption fee. If adopters fall for a dog in our care who hasn’t been tested, they can purchase a DNA test from our on-site retail store at the time of adoption.

To adopt an animal, please come to the center to meet with a Customer Service representative and get acquainted with available animals. You can download an adoption profile, complete the form and bring it with you. We open at 11am every day except major holidays. It is often not possible for our staff to complete adoptions when visitors arrive less than an hour before closing (7 pm on weekdays and 6 pm on weekends). Please allow at least an hour if you think you might be adopting a pet.
